SHARK PICTURES

1. Family, Genus and species for your shark

2. A drawing of the whole shark, label the spiracles, ampullae of Lorenzini, all the fins, etc.

3. Answer the questions below:

I. Cut out the liver, how many lobes does it have?

II. Look at the stomach contents of your shark. What did it eat?

III. Locate the cardiac and pyloric regions of the stomach. Between the stomach and the intestine is the pylorus. The pylorus is a constriction between the stomach and the intestine. This constriction has a muscle = the pyloric sphincter to control movement of food from stomach to intestine (I know, this is not a question, just make sure you've found the above structures/regions)

IV. There are two parts to the intestine the duodenum, and the ileum (small intestine). Cut open the ileum and find the spiral valve. What do you think the function of the spiral valve is?

V. Locate the spleen and the pancreas. What are their functions?

VI. Look at the heart and gills of the shark. Draw the heart.
Identify the atrium and ventricle of the heart. Find conus arteriousus and sinus venosus, what are their functions? What do the gills look like?

VII. Find the kidneys, what do they look like?

VIII. Find the rectal gland. What is its function?

IX. Is your shark male or female?

X. Look at the brain, find the olfactory bulbs.

XI. What is the name of your shark?
